Henry Cejudo tired of uncertainty surrounding flyweight division, demands clarity ‘out of respect’

Over the last few months, there have been rampant rumors and reports that the UFC is plotting on shutting down its long struggling men’s flyweight division.

Despite these rumors, we’ve gotten zero clarity about the future of the division. Although the promotion has bushwhacked the flyweight roster, cutting multiple top fighters from Ulka Sasaki to Jose Torres to Ben Nguyen and now Dustin Ortiz and John Moraga, UFC President Dana White has expertly sidestepped all questions about the future division, somehow responding to questions without actually providing answers.

Henry Cejudo, who currently rules the UFC flyweight division, seems to be getting tired of the uncertainty. Cejudo, who is in Australia as a guest fighter for UFC 234, opened up on the situation in a recent media scrum (via MMAjunkie).

“Welcome to the UFC, welcome to MMA,” Cejudo told reporters, including ahead of the UFC 234 card, responding to the UFC’s exiling so many top flyweights. “I’m speechless. I don’t know what to tell you guys. I really don’t.

“I’m getting no answer from (White) either,” Cejudo added. “There’s a pink elephant in the room. It’s like, ‘Hey, I’m the champ.’ I should be told something at least, out of a little bit out of respect. It’s still unsure.”

Whatever the case, Henry Cejudo says the UFC wants him to fight TJ Dillashaw for a second time — potentially in the bantamweight division.

“One thing they do want, they do want that TJ fight,” Cejudo said. “Dana wants it, TJ wants it, we want it. That’s kind of where everything is heading as of now. Possibly (at bantamweight). I would like it. I know I could beat the man again at 135 pounds. I know what I saw in those 32 seconds. I see a lot of opportunities for me.”
