Israel Adesanya to PED-users: ‘I’m snitching’
Despite the very best efforts of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), there are still fighters in the UFC attempting to use performance enhancing drugs. Over the last few months, the agency has busted several high profile PED-users, most notably former UFC bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw, and will continue to attempt to catch any fighters who are looking to give themselves an unfair advantage. It sounds like USADA will have some help from UFC interim middleweight champion Israel Adesanya as they continue on their mission.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Schmo, the UFC interim middleweight champ vowed to snitch on anybody he hears is using performance enhancing drugs in the UFC.
“He didn’t need it,” Adesanya said of TJ Dillashaw (transcript via MMA News). “I don’t think he needed it to be great, but maybe mentally they’re not confident. Something that Cody said, at the press conference when he was talking shit, he said, he’s the one that showed us how to do steroids. So when he said ‘us,’ that means there’s a lot more people. And even Ali Abdelaziz says he knows five guys who are on it right now, but no one’s snitching. I don’t understand. I tell you what, don’t offer me no steroids, because I’m snitching. Understand that.”
Israel Adesanya last fought in the co-main event of UFC 236 in Atlanta, Georgia, where he captured the interim middleweight strap with a unanimous decision victory over Kelvin Gastelum. The bout was an undeniable contender for 2019’s Fight of the Year honors.
Adesanya is now expected to unify his title with the undisputed middleweight title owned by Robert Whittaker sometime later this year — mostly likely in Australia.
Do you think fighters like Israel Adesanya should do more to help USADA bust PED-users in the UFC?
