Joe Rogan gives update on his retirement from UFC commentator role

Joe Rogan has been working as a color commentator for the UFC since 1997, having debuted all the way back at UFC 12. Over the years, the comedian and podcast host has become as much a part of big UFC cards as the Octagon itself.

Of course, there will eventually come a day when Joe Rogan decides it’s time to take off his broadcaster’s headset once and for all.

The good news for Rogan fans is that that day still seems to be a ways off.

Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast recently, Rogan said that he still enjoys working as a UFC commentator, particularly now that the promotion has hired many other commentators to help reduce his workload.

“I do enjoy it,” Rogan told Brendan Schaub on his podcast (transcript via Forbes). “I cut way back. Cause first of all, I was doing too many of them. At one point I was doing 24 a year, it was way too many. It was like half of the weekends of the year, I was flying somewhere to go to the UFC. It was too much.

“That was before the UFC really started adding a bunch of people and it took a lot of the weight off of me.”

“I don’t think about retiring because I like what I do,” Rogan added. “So I don’t think about ‘oh I need ‘X’ amount of money in the bank so I’m not going to do this very much longer’. I like all that stuff.”

While Joe Rogan still enjoys his work with the UFC, he does admit that certain aspects of it can be quite stressful — particularly the ceremonial weigh-ins.

“I don’t like doing the weigh-ins,” Rogan said. “It’s stressful.”
