Joe Rogan outlines Amanda Nunes’ path to victory against Cris Cyborg

On December 29, in the co-main event of UFC 232, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will move up a weight class to challenge dominating UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg for her title. Sitting at the commentary booth for this fight will be long-time UFC staple Joe Rogan.

Like most members of the MMA community, Joe Rogan agrees that Amanda Nunes is in for a very difficult night of work against Cris Cyborg. That being said, he feels the bantamweight champion can defeat the featherweight champion with the right game plan.

“I think Amanda’s gotta move,” Rogan said on a recent Fight Companion episode of his popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

“I think the key to anybody that beats Cyborg, you have to catch her coming in and hurt her,” he added later.

Part of the reason Joe Rogan feels movement will be so key to Amanda Nunes’ success at UFC 232 is that she will be the much smaller woman in the cage. Rogan estimates the bantamweight champ walks around in the 160-pound range, while Cyborg is likely north of 180 pounds between fights.

“[Nunes is] probably in the 160s, I would guess,” Rogan said.

“[Cyborg is] so much bigger,” he added.

Whatever the case, Joe Rogan was adamant that Amanda Nunes does have a shot in this anticipated champion versus champion fight.

“Sure, she’s got a chance, she’s a beast,” he said.  “She’s got a chance.”

While Joe Rogan believes Amanda Nunes can topple Cris Cyborg with the right game plan, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, who also appeared on this JRE podcast, didn’t share his optimism. In Schaub’s eyes, there’s not a woman alive that can beat Cris Cyborg in an MMA bout at this juncture.

“There’s not a girl on this planet that can beat Cyborg,” Schaub said bluntly.
