Joe Rogan says Elias Theodorou release ‘doesn’t make any sense’
When the UFC released four fighters last week, the most surprising name was Canadian and 15th-ranked middleweight, Elias Theodorou, and UFC commentator Joe Rogan agrees.
The Canadian was 3-1 in his last four, and 8-3 in his entire time in the UFC, along with winning a season of The Ultimate Fighter. However, his style was not the most entertaining one, as evident by him getting booed in his last fight against Derek Brunson. As well, he had not finished or been finished in a fight since March of 2015, a stretch of eight-straight fights.
But, the Canadian always found a way to win. In his most recent win over Eryk Anders at UFC 231, Theodorou was badly rocked in the second round. It appeared Anders was on the verge of finishing the fight. However, Elias Theodorou was able to regain control of the fight and win the third round to secure the win.
Now that a few days have passed since the news was reported, Joe Rogan still doesn’t understand why the UFC released Elias Theodorou. And, he wants the UFC to explain why they did.
“Obviously I’m a giant fan of the UFC, I love them to death. I am so happy and I would (do) nothing for any other organization. I would never want to work for any other organization,” Rogan said on his “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. “But I don’t like the way they do things. There are a lot of things I don’t like. They just cut Elias Theodorou. One loss (to) Derek Brunson, cut. Like, explain that. How do you explain that? That one doesn’t make any sense.”
For now, Theodorou or the UFC has yet to comment on the release.
