Joe Rogan says he believes Conor McGregor vs Donald Cerrone is ‘done deal’
A blockbuster fight between Conor McGregor and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone may be one step closer to happening. UFC commentator Joe Rogan spoke about the proposed matchup on his Fight Companion podcast last night during the UFC on ESPN broadcast.
“Conor-Cowboy is a done deal, as far as I know.” Rogan stated plainly.
Conor McGregor (21-4) hasn’t competed since his submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. Following a post-fight scuffle with Nurmagomedov’s team, the 30-year-old was handed a six month suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which will be up in April. The Irish superstar is 2-2 in his last four fights and has never lost two-straight bouts.
This news comes after Cerrone revealed earlier this month that he would be fighting McGregor for an interim lightweight title.
Donald Cerrone (35-11) has injected new life into his career coming off back-to-back stoppage victories. His most recent victim was rising prospect Alex Hernandez who he defeated via TKO at UFC on ESPN+1 last month. The 35-year-old went on a 1-4 run from 2017 to 2018 but has since won three of his last four fights. “Cowboy” has won 17 of his 46-career fights by submission, the same method McGregor has lost all of his fights by.
UFC president Dana White has also thrown in his support for a potential McGregor vs. Cerrone scrap.
“I’d like to see Conor fight this summer, if those two [McGregor and Cerrone] want to fight each other, they’ve both earned it,” White said in February.
“Cowboy’s fought anybody we’ve ever put against him… we throw this young killer [Alexander] Hernandez at him, Cowboy’s the underdog, he goes in and does it the way he did it, and then Conor’s fought everybody. If these two want to fight, I’m down,”
No word on when or where a potential matchup between these two would happen. Do you want to see Conor McGregor face Donald Cerrone next?
