Johnny Walker hopes to fill in for Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 235

By Drake Riggs - February 11, 2019

Brazil’s Johnny Walker has wasted little to no time getting his UFC career started.

The 16-3 26-year old has already racked up two stunningly impressive highlight reel knockout wins since entering the promotion late last year.

Matched with Khalil Rountree in a confusing match-up that followed Rountree’s knockout of Gokhan Saki, Walker would prove that it was actually proper matchmaking as he disposed of Rountree in just under two minutes with some devastating elbows.

In his sophomore appearance just a few weeks ago in Fortaleza, Brazil, Walker took out Justin Ledet in a mere 15 seconds. Only further proving that he may be a future threat to the top of the division some day.

Now looking to capitalize on an opportunity and climb up the ladder, Walker has called for a chance to replace Ovince Saint Preux against Misha Cirkunov at UFC 235 on March 2.

“Hey @mishac911 , I heard you need a new opponent for UFC 235? I might know someone… 👀 @ufc @danawhite I am waiting for the call” Walker posted on Instagram.

Saint Preux was recently campaigning to try and get his bout with Cirkunov moved to UFC Nashville as the light heavyweight is from the state of Tennessee. Unfortunately, he won’t be getting to fight at all now that he’s sustained his injury.

For Cirkunov, he most recently rebounded from his lone career losing streak when he defeated Patrick Cummins with a first-round submission (arm-triangle) at UFC Moncton in October 2018.

With plenty of time left between now and UFC 235, it seems fairly logical to throw Walker into the fight. Especially when considering he didn’t take any damage in his last time out.

In the early part of 2019, UFC 235 is definitely looking to be the biggest card of the year so far.
