Jon Jones blasts ‘frail’ Israel Adesanya
It appears UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones doesn’t see interim UFC middleweight title holder Israel Adesanya as a threat.
Jones and Adesanya are on different paths in the immediate future, but that hasn’t stopped the two men from trading barbs. Jon Jones will defend his 205-pound gold against Thiago Santos in the main event of UFC 239 on July 6. Adesanya will take on Robert Whittaker in a middleweight title unification bout later this year.
“Bones” spoke to Ariel Helwani on his ESPN show and didn’t have too many kind things to say about “The Last Stylebender” (via MMANews.com):
“Israel is light in the ass. He’s light. He’s skinny, he’s skinny. I put my hands on him and teach him a whole different world of hurt. For him to be so frail and to not have a ground game. It’s like bro, you don’t wanna do it. And then to talk about my stand-up against Anthony Smith, with his face all bubbled up against a short wrestler who did that to him, it was just hilarious. I barely get touched in my fights. So for Israel to talk about his striking skills like they’re so far ahead of mine, it’s hilarious. Just to sum up what I think about Israel, I think he’s a little too light in the ass, needs to eat some more jerk chicken and come holler at me.”
The animosity between Jones and Adesanya sparked when the interim middleweight champion said he was hunting Jones. The light heavyweight champion didn’t take too kindly to this and said he’d make Adesanya call him “daddy” by the third round.
