Justin Willis responds to Tai Tuivasa’s callout
On Friday, at the weigh-ins for UFC Adelaide, Justin Willis and his opponent Mark Hunt had a pretty tense staredown, capped off by a bit of trash talk. This did not go over well with Hunt’s training partner and friend Tai Tuivasa, who battled Junior Dos Santos in the UFC Adelaide main event.
Shortly after he came up short to Dos Santos in the main event, Tai Tuivasa called for a fight with Willis.
“Justin Willis, you little bitch,” he said moments after experiencing his first career loss. “I’m coming for you, boy.”
Willis, however, doesn’t seem too worried about this callout.
“He’s concussed,” Willis told the media post-fight (video via Submission Radio, transcript via MMA Fighting). “I mean, the guy just lost in his home country — how embarrassing. It’s one of those things where you’re the main event, you come in here and get knocked out and you call out a guy who beat up your daddy. You’re gonna have to win a fight or two and then we can talk. I’m off to greener and brighter pastures. Top five. I’m after a belt. And he’s not that guy right now.”
Justin Willis clarified that he might be willing to oblige Tuivasa’s callout if the Australian had won his main event battle with dos Santos.
“If he won,” he said. “But it’s mine now. Dos Santos is now. It got taken, literally. It got taken.”
“So he can’t be calling out a guy who won. It doesn’t make sense. That’s ignorant, that’s foolish.”
Willis also added that he feels no regret about his tense weigh-in encounter with Mark Hunt.
“This is the fight game, not the light game,” he said. “I’m not in there to make friends. I’m here to dominate these guys, by any means necessary. I’m here to win. I don’t care if it’s a decision, I don’t care if it’s a knockout, split decision. I don’t give a flying you know what.”
