Kamaru Usman doubtful Tyron Woodley is taking UFC 235 fight seriously

By Tom Taylor - February 25, 2019

At UFC 235, Kamaru Usman will look to wrest the UFC welterweight belt from the waist of long-time champion Tyron Woodley.

Kamaru Usman, Interim title, UFC

Heading into this fight, the pair have exchanged quite a bit of trash talk — most notably at the recent UFC 235 pre-fight press conference. At this event, they engaged in a lengthy back-and-forth, throughout which Woodley seemed entirely free of worry, cracking jokes and comparing Usman to rapper LL Cool J.

These comments from Tyron Woodley have Kamaru Usman questioning the champion’s focus ahead of UFC 235.

“It kind of reiterated some things to me,” Usman said on an episode of Anatomy of a Fighter (transcript via MMA News). “Like, I don’t know. I hope he’s just out there playing, just for the media, for the camera, to where he’s acting like he’s not taking this as serious as I’m taking it. Because I’m not coming to play. I’m not coming for that. So all that is done.”

Kamaru Usman assures that, no matter Woodley’s mindset heading into this contest, he’s in for a fight at UFC 235.

“I’m expecting a war,” he promised. “He’s talking reckless. ‘Oh, I’m gonna punish him. I’m gonna make him pay.’ You ain’t never seen me punished. You ain’t never seen me quit. I’ve seen him quit. So you’ve never seen that out of me. So you can say whatever you want. At the end of the day, March 2nd, I’m gonna climb inside that cage, you gonna climb inside that cage, they’re gonna lock the motherf***in’ door, and it’s gonna be a fight.”

Who do you think will come out on top when the cage door closes on Kamaru Usman and Tyron Woodley at UFC 235?
