Kevin Lee promises he’s ‘still going to be champ’ after UFC Milwaukee loss

Last Saturday night, in the main event of the UFC’s final show on FOX, highly regarded lightweight contender Kevin Lee hit a speed bump in the form of Al Iaquinta. Though Lee was not without his moments in the pair’s five-round encounter, he ultimately gave up a unanimous decision to his foe, which derailed his lightweight title dreams for the moment.

That being said, Lee promises that he will still capture the belt in the future. While he is disappointed in this loss, his resolve has not been shaken.

Kevin Lee spoke on this subject in a post on his official Instagram on Monday night.

“The fight on Saturday, I still feel like we won it,” Lee said on Instagram, debating the scoring for his fight with Iaquinta (transcript via MMANytt). “I fought a lot off my back foot as a southpaw and against my natural fighting style. My explosiveness and coming forward and being aggressive. I tried to show something a little too different. Al showed up, he put on a great performance, landed a great shot in the fourth round.

“All I can say is, I’m going to be back and I’m still going to be a champ regardless of where it’s at and what it is.”

For Kevin Lee, this disappointing loss to Al Iaquinta was preceded by a dominant stoppage victory over Brazilian knockout artist Edson Barboza. In his next most recent bout, he was submitted by streaking contender Tony Ferguson in an interim lightweight title fight. He’s now 17-4 overall.
