Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father vows to impose tougher punishment than the UFC
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently in hot water. Shortly after his fourth-round submission of Conor McGregor in the UFC 229 main event, he vaulted out of the Octagon and attacked McGregor’s friend and training partner Dillon Danis, sparking a wild brawl between members of both teams.
For his role in this post fight chaos, Khabib Nurmagomedov is now facing punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), who oversaw the fight, and possibly from the UFC as well.
Apparently, however, these punishments should be the least of his worries.
Speaking to Tass.ru, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap vowed that he will punish the champion far harder than either the UFC or the NSAC.
“I will impose a punishment tougher than the UFC’s,” Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov said (translation Bloody Elbow). “I warned him. For me, discipline comes first. You do whatever you want in the Octagon, [but] outside — this is the border of civilians, where there are children, women, strangers.”
How exactly Khabib Nurmagomedov will be punished by his father and coach remains to be seen. UFC President Dana White, however, feels the NSAC should hand Nurmagomedov a $250,000 fine and a six month suspension, so Abdulmanap has some work to do.
“They took his whole purse right now and they’re talking about keeping his purse – I do not think that that should happen,” White told TMZ recently. “You should not be able to keep his whole purse.”
“I think they should take a quarter of a million dollars ($250,000) from him. He absolutely keeps his title. And he’s going to get suspended, so maybe you give him a four to six months suspension.”
White also previously suggested that Khabib Nurmagomedov will likely be stripped of his title if he is suspended long-term.
What do you think the future holds for the UFC lightweight champ?
