Khabib Nurmagomedov will be back in September
Current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will be back in September, this according to UFC President Dana White.
“The Eagle”, who was last seen in action against Conor McGregor this past October, is currently serving a suspension for his involvement in the now infamous UFC 229 post-fight brawl.
Following his fourth round submission victory over the Irish Superstar, Nurmagomedov proceeded to leap out of the octagon and attack member’s of McGregor’s team who were cageside.
Khabib was suspended nine months and fined $500,000 for his actions, while some of his teammates received one year bans from the NSAC.
Nurmagomedov originally stated that he would not return to action until his suspended teammates were eligible to return. With that, many fight fans expected “The Eagle” to be out until at least November 2019.
However, according to UFC President Dana White that is not the case. The brass UFC boss claims the undefeated Russian will be back in the octagon this September.
“He’ll be back in September,” Dana White said of Khabib Nurmagomedov on the UFC Unfiltered podcast. “It’s one of the things with him anyways, he’s on suspension and then he doesn’t fight during Ramadan. That puts him at September.”
It is expected that Nurmagomedov will take on the winner of next month’s UFC 236 interim lightweight title fight between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier in his next octagon appearance.
