Leon Edwards releases statement on Jorge Masvidal brawl: ‘Now you’re f***ed’
UFC welterweight contenders Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal both won big at Saturday night’s UFC London card, defeating Gunnar Nelson and Darren Till respectively.
Shortly after their victories in the Octagon, they traded punches with each other outside of it.
As Jorge Masvidal partook in a post-fight interview, Leon Edwards began to heckle him from across the room. Masvidal then cut his interview short and approached Edwards, challenging him to say it to his face. Seconds later, Masvidal pummelled the Brit with a trio of crackling, gloveless punches.
Shortly after the fact, Jorge Masvidal explained why he threw punches at Leon Edwards. In a Sunday morning Instagram post, Edwards finally gave his take on the situation.
“Very happy with my performance last night against a very high caliber opponent in Gunnar Nelson,” Edwards began, first recapping his win over Nelson. “Much respect to you Gunnar that was a great fight and look forward to seeing you bounce back. Thanks to my team, friends, family and the fans for everything. Birmingham stand up! As I said – that’s 7 in a row in the hardest division in the sport and I’m coming for everyone. World champ 2019 mark my words. If you’re not with me now, you will be.
“And Jorge, fair play sneaking your shots in when you could, But now you’re fucked,” he added, addressing Masvidal. “If security wasn’t there you wouldn’t have made it back to the US. I’ll see you soon.”
While Jorge Masvidal certainly has options after his crushing knockout of the third-ranked Darren Till, he and Leon Edwards now seem to be on a collision course. Do you think we’ll see the two welterweight contenders fight this year?
