Luke Rockhold says Jon Jones should have been punished, ‘What’s the point of setting the rules?’

Yesterday, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was officially re-licensed in the state of Nevada despite his recent red flags surrounding his picogram-metabolite revealing positive testings.

With the re-licensing, it means that Jones is able to once again compete in Nevada which is where his next bout will be held when he is to take on top contender, Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith.

However, a teammate of Jones’ longtime rival Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold is on his way to Jones’ division as he plans to fight again in April.

In making the move up from the middleweight division where he was a champion, Rockhold looks to find himself standing across from Jones one day inside the Octagon.

And in regards to Jones’ mishaps with the testing system, he isn’t all too surprised about how things have turned out.

“Nope, I’m not [surprised],” Rockhold responded simply when speaking with Helen Yee. “I know this sport very well. Some people get away with it, some people don’t. It’s an annoying process but like I said, as long as I can focus on my strength and not deplete myself, I can still beat these guys at their best. On their best.

“Yes [Jones should have been punished]. Like everybody else. Like what the rule says. No one gets their treatment. They set rules and they break ’em. What’s the point of setting the rules?”

For Luke Rockhold, his last fight came in February 2018 when he suffered a third-round knockout loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 221. Had he won, Rockhold would have become the interim middleweight champion.

Preparing to get back in action, Rockhold says he’s eyeing the winner of the UFC Prague main event which features the red-hot duo of Jan Blachowicz and Thiago Santos.

Jones, on the other hand, made his official return at UFC 232 when he defeated Alexander Gustafsson for the second time by earning the ground and pound TKO stoppage in round three.
