Max Holloway set a bunch of records in his UFC 231 fight with Brian Ortega
Current UFC featherweight kingpin Max Holloway set a bunch of records in his impressive UFC 231 victory over Brian Ortega last night in Toronto.
“Blessed” put on an absolute clinic in last night’s main event, peppering Brian Ortega with punches for the better part of twenty minutes before doctors were eventually forced to call a stop to the action.
It was arguably the greatest performance of Max Holloway’s already storied career, and extended the Hawaiian’s current win streak to thirteen fights in a row.
Holloway’s current win streak ties him for the second most in promotional history, trailing only Anderson Silva who once strung together sixteen-straight victories.
During his lopsided victory over Brian Ortega at UFC 231, Max Holloway set a new UFC record for most significant strikes in one fight with 290.
“Blessed” landed 134 of those significant strikes in round four, setting a new single-round UFC record.
The product of Waianae now holds the most victories in UFC featherweight history with fifteen.
If that wasn’t enough, Max Holloway became the first fighter to ever defeat Brian Ortega at last night’s UFC 231 event.
Holloway’s incredible performance at UFC 231 resulted in promotional president Dana White calling for future super-fights at lightweight.
During last night’s UFC 231 post-fight press conference Max Holloway discussed potential fights with some of the lightweight divisions elite.
One potential fight that continues to be brought up for “Blessed” is a rematch with former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor.
The brash Irish superstar had previously defeated Max Holloway via unanimous decision back in August of 2013.
While Conor McGregor applauded Max Holloway on his impressive win at UFC 231, “Mystic Mac” also reminded the Hawaiian about his own personal accomplishments at 145-pounds.
At this time Holloway’s next octagon opponent remains uncertain, but there is certainly no shortage of possibilities.
