Michael Bisping to commentate UFC events in 2019
Former UFC middleweight king Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping retired in May of this year and has been enjoying life as an analyst and podcaster.
Since his last fight at UFC Shanghai in November 2017, he has also dabbled in some commentary on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series season 2.
Now that the UFC is going forward in 2019 with ESPN, Bisping will as well as he’ll be joining the commentary combinations he announced on his Beleive You Me podcast.
”I’m going to be commentating on UFC events going forward, so that’s interesting and exciting for me,” Bisping revealed. “Yeah just going back and forth with the UFC obviously I’m going to be continuing with ESPN in the new year, got the first few dates, Brooklyn, Phoenix, London so that’s exciting and there’ll be some commentary in there as well. [I’m] yet to get my first gig booked but we’ve negotiated the deal and everything so that’s good news it’s exciting times.
“It wasn’t something I was yearning to do but of course I’m not fighting anymore and I’ve dedicated my life to this sport, I do know a lot about it. If you ask me my expert subject, mixed martial arts and the current climate of mixed martial arts would be one of my expert subjects for sure. I do want to stay involved with the sport. It keeps me relevant, it keeps me current.”
With the addition of Bisping to the group that the UFC uses on commentary, he’ll join the likes of Dan Hardy, Paul Felder, Daniel Cormier, Joe Rogan, Jimmy Smith, and Dominick Cruz as color commentators.
In November 2017, Bisping fought twice which essentially led to his retirement after the first of the two outings saw him lose his title to the returning Georges St-Pierre. The following bout saw him fill in on short notice to take on the next title challenger Kelvin Gastelum.
