MMA community reacts to Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes
On Saturday night, in the co-main event of UFC 232 in Los Angeles — not Las Vegas as originally planned — UFC women’s featherweight champion attempted to defend her belt against reigning women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in one of the biggest fights in the history of women’s mixed martial arts.
Pegged as a significant underdog, the bantamweight champion rose to the occasion in unimaginable style and decimated the long-time featherweight champion in the very first round.
The pair began exchanging early, and it was Nunes who drew first blood. Cyborg was visibly wobbled, and Nunes did not let her recover. A few clubbing followup punches later, and Cyborg was face down on the canvas, out like a light. It took just 51 seconds.
As you can probably imagine, this jaw-dropping upset victory generated some interesting reactions from the MMA community.
Here’s how the community reacted:

With this unbelievable knockout victory, Amanda Nunes becomes the first woman to win titles in two UFC divisions, and one of just three fighters in UFC history to hold titles in two divisions concurrently, along with Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier.
Amanda Nunes is now 17-4 overall.
Cris Cyborg, on the other hand, gets her first taste of defeat in over 10 years. She’s now 20-2 as a professional mixed martial artist.
While nothing is certain at this stage, it seems quite likely that Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg rematch sometime in the New Year.
