Drake Riggs - October 5, 2018
The former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is just a little under a month away from being able to return to action for the first time since July 2017. Jones has been out of action since that time as he wound up testing positive for banned substances after his UFC 214 encounter with current champion Daniel Cormier.
Khabib Nurmagomedov did not appreciate Dana White asking where Conor McGregor's belts were at press conference
Tom Taylor - October 5, 2018
Tony Ferguson has been toting his UFC interim lightweight belt around with him all week — even though he no longer technically owns that title. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the undisputed lightweight champion, is surprisingly just fine with that. “When you fight like this, high-level fight, you have to believe you’re the champ, nobody can beat you,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said Thursday at the UFC 229 pre-fight press conference (transcript via MMAjunkie). “It’s OK. I’m OK about this.”
Dan Hardy announces that he's been medically cleared to fight again
Tom Taylor - October 5, 2018
Former UFC welterweight title challenger Dan Hardy has not fought since September of 2012, when he was pulled out of competition as the result of a rare heart disorder called Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome. The condition is not usually dangerous, but Hardy has been kept out of the cage ever since as a precaution. While Hardy has kept plenty busy in the years since, working as a commentator and analyst for the UFC, and even penning a book, it sounds like a return to the cage is in the cards. In an interview with Sherdog.com, the 36-year-old Nottingham native announced that he’s been cleared to fight again, should he so choose.

On Saturday night, the UFC will return to Las Vegas, Nevada’s T-Mobile Arena with arguably its biggest card ever: UFC 229. The reason this card is so massive, of course, is primarily due to its main event, which will pit undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov against former lightweight and featherweight champ and all-around MMA superstar Conor McGregor.
Conor McGregor says he could make $50 million for UFC 229 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov
Cole Shelton - October 4, 2018
Everyone knows Conor McGregor made a ton of money in his last fight. His last fight, however, was not in the Octagon, rather in a boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather. The UFC superstar McGregor claims he will be making around $50 million for his Saturday night fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
EXCLUSIVE | Anthony 'Lionheart' Smith talks Volkan Oezdemir, new weight class, and Jon Jones
Mike Straus - October 4, 2018
Perhaps no fighter is a better example of what fighting at a more natural weight class can do for your fighting career than Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith. Smith has had a career rebirth so to speak this year. The 30-year-old fighter from Omaha, Nebraska has typically been a middleweight fighter in his career. Lately, however, Smith has decided that cutting down to 185 pounds and then ballooning back up to 230 pounds just isn’t worth it anymore. Let alone the damage that does to your body.

Conor McGregor responds to comparisons to Muhammad Ali
Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018
Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been compared to late boxing legend Muhammad Ali at several points over the course of his career, most notably by UFC President Dana White. These comparisons are generally based on McGregor’s confidence, showmanship and proficiency at mental warfare — traits Ali was famous for. “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: He’s better [at mental warfare] than anybody,” Dana White told the media of McGregor shortly after the first press conference for UFC 229 (via MMAjunkie). “Even Ali. You don’t want to say anybody’s better than Ali, but I think when it comes to the mental war game in this sport, or any other sport, Conor McGregor is the best ever.”
After fan backlash, Dana White says he will 'try to make' Poirier vs. Diaz the UFC 230 main event
Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018
Earlier this week, it was announced that UFC 230, which will go down on November 3 in New York City, will be headlined by a women’s flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks. To say the fan reaction to this news was negative would be an understatement. All over social media, fans shared their disappointment with this main event, many of whom suggested the card should have just been headlined by the Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz fight that is currently serving as the co-main event. Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan seemed to share this opinion, admitting that he doesn’t actually know how Sijara Eubanks is.
Dana White explains why he's opposed to introduction of a 165-pound division
Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018
Over the last few weeks, a seemingly endless list of fighters have called for the UFC to abolish the traditional 170-pound welterweight division and replace it with new 165-pound and 175-pound divisions. There was even buzz about the possibility of Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier battling for the inaugural 165-pound title in the UFC 230 main event this November 3. While this seems like a great idea in theory, however, UFC President Dana White isn’t interested. He explained why in a recent interview with ESPN.
Conor McGregor reacts to video of young Khabib Nurmagomedov wrestling a bear
Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is a scary opponent for a number of reasons. There’s his flawless, 26-0 record. There’s his stifling top game and the fact that he often talks to his opponents while he’s burying them under a meteor shower of ground and pound. And then there’s the fact that he wrestled a bear when he was a child. No, that’s not just some fabricated part of the Khabib Nurmagomedov legend, it’s a real thing that actually happened. There’s video to prove it.

Although the Irish soothsayer ‘Mystic Mac’ did not pick a specific round as he has in the past, he is confidently predicting the knockout, and from the sounds of it, he’s expecting it to happen early. “Devastating KO,” a fired up Conor McGregor told the crowd at Wednesday’s open workouts (transcript via MMA Fighting). “[He’s] too easy to hit, too flat-footed, too predictable. I’m gonna knock him clean out.”
Conor McGregor hopes to rematch Nate Diaz for 165-pound title
Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018
Conor McGregor feels he owes Nate Diaz a rematch. No matter the outcome of his UFC 229 title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Irish superstar seems determined to give Diaz that rematch, the same way Diaz gave him the opportunity. In fact, McGregor feels that his rematch with Diaz could serve as the inaugural title fight for a yet-hypothetical 165-pound division — something Diaz has been very vocal about himself.
Anthony Pettis not impressed by Tony Ferguson's record, 'Who has he fought?'
Cole Shelton - October 3, 2018
At UFC 229, everyone is focusing on the main event. Current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will be taking on former two-division champion Conor McGregor. The fight is talked about as the biggest in UFC history, and rightfully so. However, the co-main event between Tony Ferguson and Anthony Pettis has a storyline of its own.
