Kamaru Usman uncertain about his next move after UFC 294 loss to Khamzat Chimaev

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman doesn’t know what his next step will be. Usman stepped up on less than two weeks’ notice at UFC 294 as he moved up to middleweight to face Khamzat Chimaev. Usman entered that fight coming off back-to-back losses to Leon Edwards to lose his welterweight title, so he decided to move up to middleweight.

UFC CEO Dana White hopes to see a heavyweight title unification bout one day between the winners of Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic and Tom Aspinall vs Sergei Pavlovich. Heading into UFC 295, the promotion’s heavyweight division is a bit of a mess. Jon Jones was initially scheduled to defend his undisputed belt against Stipe Miocic in the main event, but an injury has forced him out. Now, instead, we’ll see Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall competing for the interim championship in the co-main event.

However, he may have to wait a bit as UFC CEO Dana White has said Charles Oliveira will likely be next for Islam Makhachev. With that, Justin Gaethje has said he is fine waiting for a year from now to get the title shot against Makhchev.

It was an intriguing matchup and Usman entered it with a lot of confidence, but it was Chimaev who won a majority decision.

UFC CEO Dana White is responding to the backlash over the new Bud Light deal. The UFC made the announcement yesterday, October 25th, that it had signed a six-year sponsorship deal with Bud Light, beginning on January 1st of 2024 ,which is expected to be worth upwards of $100 million. Bud Light will be replacing Modelo as the UFC’s official beer sponsor.

Oliveira was supposed to rematch Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 last Saturday, but just under two weeks out from the fight he suffered a cut that forced him to pull out. Alexander Volkanovski took the fight and lost by first-round knockout as Makhachev remained the UFC lightweight champion.
