New main card lineup announced for next month’s UFC 282 event

UFC 282 had a major shakeup on Wednesday and new the main card lineup has been revealed. Last night, it was revealed that Jiri Prochazka suffered a serious shoulder injury and was forced to withdraw from his UFC 282 light heavyweight title defense against Glover Teixeira. The fight was set to be the main event but with him being out for likely a year, he decided to vacate the belt. The new main event will now see Jan Blachowicz take on Magomed Ankalaev for the vacant light heavyweight title.

Sean O’Malley has opened up on who he thinks would win a potential fight between Alex Pereira and Khamzat Chimaev. At UFC 281, Pereira became the new middleweight champion as he scored a fifth-round TKO over Israel Adesanya. To no surprise, after the win, Chimaev took to social media to call the Brazilian out. He also told Pereira to sign the contract to fight him at UFC 282, which obviously isn’t going to happen.

Conor McGregor has responded after AEW world champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman took shots at Paddy Pimblett. Pimblett is one of the newest stars in the UFC and him and MJF took shots at one another over Instagram comments. It caught many by surprise but one of MJF’s digs was calling Pimblett a dollar store McGregor.

Conor McGregor went off on a Twitter tirade Wednesday evening, taking aim at both Joe Rogan and Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor (22-6 MMA) has not competed since July 2021 at UFC 274 where he suffered a broken leg during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier (28-7 MMA).

It was revealed on Wednesday that Prochazka suffered a serious shoulder injury that forced him to pull out of his UFC 282 light heavyweight title fight against Glover Teixeira. He also vacated the light heavyweight title as he didn’t want to hold up the division and has now taken to Instagram to issue a lengthy statement.

Pereira continues to haunt Adesanya’s career after the Brazilian took out the long-time champ by TKO at UFC 281. The victory moved Pereira to 3-0 over Adesanya, 1-0 in MMA. The previous two wins came in Kickboxing in 2016 and 2017. In the first meeting, Pereira scored a unanimous decision, but in the second, he separated Adesanya from consciousness.

The two had a heated exchange on Instagram on Tuesday which surprised many as the beef came out of nowhere. In the exchange, MJF teased that he will show up at UFC 282 where Pimblett is set to fight Jared Gordon.

UFC Orlando has gotten a major change as Derek Brunson vs. Jack Hermansson is no longer happening. Brunson and Hermansson were set to fight in the co-main event of the card which was also set to serve as a pivotal middleweight bout. Yet, on Tuesday, ESPN reported that Brunson suffered an undisclosed injury that forced him to withdraw, but Roman Dolidze has agreed to step up on short notice to face Hermansson at UFC Orlando on December 3.

Brandon Royval will not be fighting at UFC Vegas 66 on December 17. Royval was set to return to the Octagon at UFC Vegas 66 against Amir Albazi in a pivotal flyweight fight. Unfortnately, the American took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal he is out of his scrap due to an injury. Yet, even with that, Royval is confident he will become the flyweight champ in 2023.

UFC women’s flyweight contender Talia Santos isn’t happy with Valentina Shevchenko turning down a rematch. At UFC 275 in June, the two-faced off in the co-main event. The Brazilian headed into the fight as a massive underdog, and it was understandable. Prior to the event, Shevchenko had lost just two rounds total during her time at 125 pounds.
