UFC 279’s main event between Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz is in jeopardy after Chimaev missed weight by 7.5 pounds. Rumors had been swirling for the past few hours that ‘Borz’ wasn’t going to make weight, and it’d be by a lot. When Chimaev finally arrived to the scale he stepped on at 178.5 pounds. The Chechen fighter then smiled and threw his arms up in the air. After putting his shorts back on he stepped back on the scale for photos, throwing a quick middle finger to the assembled press before walking off.

Michael Bisping suspects Khamzat Chimaev is "a little bit distracted" going into UFC 279 fight against Nate Diaz

Ryan Harkness - September 9, 2022

UFC 279 is set up to be Khamzat Chimaev’s big coming out party. The UFC has put him up against one of their biggest stars in Nate Diaz, and it’s a match-up seemingly designed to make Chimaev look like a monster. He’s much bigger than Diaz, he’s top ranked while Diaz is unranked, and Chimaev has a history of smeshing lesser opponents in minutes without taking any damage whatsoever. Nate Diaz is a +700 dog to Chimaev’s -1100 favorite, with everyone underestimating Diaz’s ability to win. So it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to hear Chimaev is doing the same. He’s certainly talking like he expects to walk through the Stockton fighter, whose record holds more than his fair share of major upsets.

And then the Diaz crew came in, and they started doing what they’re doing, but nobody got injured. Thank God!”

Nate Diaz sends a message to Khamzat Chimaev ahead of UFC 279: "He better take me clean out the way the odds are, pressure's on"

Cole Shelton - September 8, 2022

Nate Diaz believes there is a lot of pressure on Khamzat Chimaev to not only beat him but finish him the way the odds are.
