UFC Austin loses co-main event between Donald Cerrone and Joe Lauzon

Tonight’s UFC Austin fight card just lost it’s co-main event as Donald Cerrone will no longer be fighting Joe Lauzon. The veteran lightweight standouts were expected to collide this evening in a fan-friendly affair. However, MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani recently took to Twitter where he revealed that the Donald Cerrone vs Joe Lauzon fight has been called off.

UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley believes that Daniel Cormier wants him to lose. ‘Sugar’ is scheduled to return next month against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 276. The bout is expected to be the biggest test of the 27-year-old’s career to date. He’s also looking to expand his winning streak to three. During that stretch, he’s scored wins over Raulian Paiva, Kris Moutinho, and Thomas Almeida.

Last Saturday night at UFC 275, fans were witness to one of the greatest title fights in promotion history. Teixeira looked to make the first title defense of his light-heavyweight strap against Prochazka. The Brazilian won the title with a win over Jan Blachowicz last October.

Ricardo Ramos will be returning to the Octagon for the first time in nearly 10 months against Danny Chavez at UFC Austin which is a lot longer than he wanted. Ramos suffered a decision loss to Zubaira Tukhugov back in October and since then he has been waiting to fight. However, no opportunities came up until this Saturday when he will face Chavez.

Tyron Woodley believes the UFC pushes fighters too quickly and Sage Northcutt and Paige VanZant are the perfect examples. The UFC often signs young, up-and-coming prospects but the problem with them fighting in the UFC so young is the fact they are fighting the best in the world, which is a problem according to Woodley. Along with that, the promotion has to carefully matchmake them which they didn’t do to both Northcutt and VanZant as both struggled and ultimately left the UFC.

Cory Sandhagen will finally be making his return to the Octagon. According to MMA reporter Marcel Dorff, the UFC is working on making Sandhagen vs. Song Yadong to headline a Fight Night card on September 17. The fight is not a done deal, per the report but this is the fight the promotion wants to make. The location of the event is still to be determined.

Jeremy Stephens appeared to have a tough weight cut ahead of his PFL 4 fight against Myles Price on Friday. Throughout fight week in Atlanta, Stephens was full of energy – especially now that he is at lightweight – but when he came into weigh-in he surprised many as he was completely bald. The fan-favorite was forced to shave his hair and beard to make weight as he weighed in at 156lbs on the dot.
