The former multiple-time light heavyweight title challenger, Gustafsson (18-6 MMA), was making his heavyweight debut when he collided with Werdum this evening. The Swede had previously retired from MMA following his submission loss to Anthony Smith in June of 2019, but recently found the fire to get back in the Octagon.

An intriguing welterweight matchup between Geoff Neal and Neil Magny has been added to the UFC event scheduled for August 29 in Las Vegas. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the UFC is working on getting the Neal vs. Magny fight done. The scribe says that contracts are not signed yet, but the UFC intends on booking this fight to take place later this summer. The August 29 card is rumored to take place at the UFC Apex in Vegas and is set to feature a main event between top-five featherweights Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez.

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley believes Gilbert Burns will pose some real problems for the division’s reigning king Kamaru Usman. Burns was originally expected to challenge Usman for the welterweight title at UFC 251 earlier this month, but was pulled from the fight when he tested positive for COVID-19. He was then replaced by Jorge Masvidal, who Usman defeated by decision.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk is only interested in title fights and big fights according to American Top Team owner, Dan Lambert. Jedrzejczyk last fought back at UFC 248 in March where she and Weili Zhang put on an all-time great fight. The two traded shots for 25 minutes. Jedrzejczyk was looking to reclaim her title while the Chinese champion was looking for her first title defense.

The bout will be his first back from a short-lived retirement, which followed a submission loss to Anthony Smith in his final light heavyweight fight.

For Whittaker, Saturday’s fight against Till represents his return to the Octagon after a nine-month hiatus after he lost his belt to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243 last October. He needed to take a break due to feeling burned out and dealing with mental health struggles, which he has been open about publicly.
