Anthony Johnson will get top-10 opponent in UFC return, says Dana White

Former UFC light heavyweight title contender Anthony Johnson will get a top-10 opponent in his return to the Octagon, whenever that is. Johnson retired from MMA after losing to Daniel Cormier at UFC 210 in April 2017 in a failed bid to become the UFC light heavyweight champion. He retired as one of the top-three fighters in his weight class, and in the last year or so Johnson has hinted that he is considering a return to the Octagon.

There are hundreds of amazing knockouts that have taken place inside the Octagon, but perhaps none of them have been as crazy as Masvidal’s KO over Askren last summer at UFC 239. Masvidal was able to set a UFC record with the fastest KO of all time when he flatlined the undefeated Askren with a brutal flying knee in just five seconds. Askren was out cold right away from the blow, while the KO saw Masvidal explore into superstardom.

Long-time UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre recalled his Octagon debut against Karo Parisyan in 2004, admitting he was paid just $3,000 to show. St-Pierre retired as one of the richest fighters in mixed martial arts history after he headlined numerous blockbuster pay-per-views throughout his 13-year MMA career. Everything he earned inside the cage, plus sponsorships and movie roles along the way, and it’s easy to say why GSP is worth millions today. American Top Team coach Conan Silveira says the reason Amanda Nunes can’t fight at UFC 249 is due to an ankle injury she suffered in training. The UFC women’s featherweight champion Nunes recently withdrew from a scheduled title fight against Felicia Spencer at the newly-revamped UFC 249 card on May 9 in Jacksonville, Florida. The two were previously scheduled for the canceled UFC 250 card set for Sao Paulo, and UFC president Dana White was hoping to re-book the fight as the third title fight on the new, stacked UFC 249 card.

On March 21, the British welterweight was expected to headline the UFC event in his home country in London. His adversary would be none other than the former welterweight champion Woodley. However, due to the threat of coronavirus, the event was canceled.
