A bantamweight scrap between Rob Font and Joey Gomez served as the second bout of “UFC Fight Night 81′ in Boston. Rob Font was able to use some slick footwork to set up an early takedown on Gomez. Joey immediately gets back to his feet. Font is able to slip in and score a second takedown but once again Gomez is able to scramble back to his feet in mere seconds. Good uppercut followed by a left hand for Font. Gomez pushes forward but misses with his punches. Good combo from Font. Rob Font with a solid combo. Gomez returns a nice right from the clinch. Good jab from Gomez. Font returns fire with a right. Round one comes to an end.

A light heavyweight bout between Francimar Barroso (18-4 MMA) and Elvis Mutapcic (15-4 MMA) kicked off the ‘UFC Fight Night 81’ prelims tonight in Boston. Barroso opens up with a big overhand right to start. Barroso switches his stance. Mutapcic misses with a front kick. Barroso lands a good left hand. Barroso slips a punch and brings the fight to the ground. Mutapcic landing elbows from his back. Right hands to the body for Barroso. The round ends with Barroso in top position.

Say what you want about Dominick Cruz, the former champ may be skilled in things other than fighting but man, “The Dominator” has such a high fight IQ it would be a waste to see him only on FOX as an analyst.   He’ll have plenty of time for that years from now.
