Just when you thought the Dana White and Cris Cyborg story had come to a conclusion, it apparently has a few chapters left to be written. Last week, in a sit down interview with Laura Sanko, the UFC president announced that he, along with the organization, were “no longer in the Cris Cyborg business”, thus releasing her and giving their blessing to the former women’s featherweight champion to take her talents anywhere she wanted.

Cris Cyborg is no longer a member of the UFC after completing her contract and then being released by Dana White. With that, the possibility of the Amanda Nunes rematch seems unlikely. Many wanted that fight to happen, including UFC president, Dana White, both fighters and now Cyborg’s coach in Jason Parillo. He says that is the only fight that makes sense for the former featherweight champion. ‘JP’ added that no other opponent or fight is an exciting option for Cyborg.

Zabit Magomedsharipov will return to the Octagon at October’s UFC Boston event against fellow featherweight contender Calvin Kattar. UFC President Dana White announcer the news to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

Ben Askren will return to the Octagon later this year to take on Demian Maia. Askren was hoping to earn a title shot with a win in his latest fight at UFC 239. Unfortunately, for “Funky” a Jorge Masvidal flying knee ruined those plans. But, as a consolation prize, when he takes on Maia, Askren will be headlining his first UFC event.

UFC light heavyweight contender Thiago Santos is demanding a rematch against Jon Jones following knee surgery after a close loss at UFC 239. Jones defended the UFC light heavyweight title with scores of 48-47, 47-48, and 48-47 for a split decision nod at UFC 239. Many thought Jones lost the fight and that Santos deserved a rematch, after taking the champ the distance despite suffering severe knee injuries.

When Jorge Masvidal knocked out Ben Askren in five seconds at UFC 239, he asserted himself as one of the uppermost contenders in the crowded UFC welterweight division. Unfortunately for Masvidal, it sounds as though his good friend and training partner Colby Covington will get the next crack at the reigning champ Kamaru Usman.  According to MMA analyst Chael Sonnen, however, there could be something big on the agenda for Jorge Masvidal — even if it’s not a title shot. Sonnen is adamant that a matchup between Masvidal and Conor McGregor is still a possibility, contrary to UFC President Dana White’s apparent disinterest in it.

Liz Carmouche is the only person to ever finish Valentina Shevchenko, and she expects to do that again. In the main event of UFC Uruguay, Carmouche will rematch Shevchenko for the UFC flyweight belt. The two fought back in 2010, and the American defeated the future UFC champ from Kyrgyzstan by stoppage. Although that was nine years ago, the outcome is still somewhat controversial.

Cris Cyborg has broken her silence on her exit from the UFC. This past Friday afternoon, an interview with UFC president Dana White was released. White told reporter Laura Sanko that the UFC will not match any offers on the table for Cyborg from other promotions.

Polarizing UFC welterweight star Colby Covington left a few members of the MMA community quite disappointed when he walloped Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC Newark on Saturday. That includes reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Shortly after Covington’s victory over Lawler, Jones took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the action.

Ben Askren is very disappointed that he was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239, but he’s managed to find a silver lining in this abrupt defeat. He believes he helped Masvidal become rich and popular in a way that he never would have been had they not fought. For that, he believes he’s owed a ‘thank you’ — although he doesn’t seem to expect to get one.

This was evident by the UFC Newark post-fight show. Usman also says Covington is not the ‘people’s champ’, as he says he claims that people hate ‘Chaos’.

Now, looking back on the loss, Askren still can’t believe it happened and is still upset as he says he ruined his life goal of being the best fighter ever.

Colby Covington, who has long considered himself the true UFC welterweight champion, says he might defend his title against his good friend and long-time training partner Jorge Masvidal before he takes on Kamaru Usman — the man the UFC has crowned the welterweight champion. It all seems to depend on Usman’s willingness to work within Covington’s schedule. Covington made this claim on the latest episode of Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday afternoon.

The opening betting line has been released for the upcoming Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington welterweight title grudge match. The online sportsbook Bovada opened up the UFC welterweight champion Usman as the clear -300 betting favorite. Covington is the underdog at +230 odds. That means you would have to bet $300 on the favorite Usman to win $100, while a $100 bet on Covington as the underdog would win you $230.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk has a lot riding on her next fight at strawweight. In the main event of UFC San Francisco, she will take on Michelle Waterson. It will also mark her first fight at 115-pounds since she beat Tecia Torres by decision back in July of 2018.
