Dana White reacts to Cris Cyborg's apology: 'It had to kill her'

Just when you thought the Dana White and Cris Cyborg story had come to a conclusion, it apparently has a few chapters left to be written. Last week, in a sit down interview with Laura Sanko, the UFC president announced that he, along with the organization, were “no longer in the Cris Cyborg business”, thus releasing her and giving their blessing to the former women’s featherweight champion to take her talents anywhere she wanted.

Cris Cyborg is no longer a member of the UFC after completing her contract and then being released by Dana White. With that, the possibility of the Amanda Nunes rematch seems unlikely. Many wanted that fight to happen, including UFC president, Dana White, both fighters and now Cyborg’s coach in Jason Parillo. He says that is the only fight that makes sense for the former featherweight champion. ‘JP’ added that no other opponent or fight is an exciting option for Cyborg.

Unfortunately, for “Funky” a Jorge Masvidal flying knee ruined those plans. But, as a consolation prize, when he takes on Maia, Askren will be headlining his first UFC event.

Thiago Santos demands rematch with Jon Jones

UFC light heavyweight contender Thiago Santos is demanding a rematch against Jon Jones following knee surgery after a close loss at UFC 239. Jones defended the UFC light heavyweight title with scores of 48-47, 47-48, and 48-47 for a split decision nod at UFC 239. Many thought Jones lost the fight and that Santos deserved a rematch, after taking the champ the distance despite suffering severe knee injuries.

When Jorge Masvidal knocked out Ben Askren in five seconds at UFC 239, he asserted himself as one of the uppermost contenders in the crowded UFC welterweight division. Unfortunately for Masvidal, it sounds as though his good friend and training partner Colby Covington will get the next crack at the reigning champ Kamaru Usman. According to MMA analyst Chael Sonnen, however, there could be something big on the agenda for Jorge Masvidal — even if it’s not a title shot. Sonnen is adamant that a matchup between Masvidal and Conor McGregor is still a possibility, contrary to UFC President Dana White’s apparent disinterest in it.

The two fought back in 2010, and the American defeated the future UFC champ from Kyrgyzstan by stoppage. Although that was nine years ago, the outcome is still somewhat controversial.
