Paige VanZant lands lead color commentator gig
Former UFC strawweight prospect turned flyweight, ’12 Gauge’ Paige VanZant has already shown to be multi-talented whether it be expressed in or out of the MMA world. As a fighter first, VanZant’s newest venture will see her doing work in the MMA world… But not as a fighter.
The UFC announced Wednesday that VanZant will be making her debut as a commentator when she takes the lead role as color commentator alongside Sean Wheelock for M-1 Global – USA. The event will take place on April 4 on UFC Fight Pass live from the Pipa Event Center at Quechan Casino Resort in Yuma, Arizona starting at 8:00 PM PST.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to work as the color commentator for M-1 Global USA on UFC Fight Pass,” VanZant said in the news release. “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills on the other side of the microphone.”
For VanZant, she had her comeback fight earlier this year in January after being away from action for a full year with a broken arm. In her return, she would take on Rachael Ostovich and end up securing a victory with a second-round submission via armbar.
After that, VanZant was hoping to stay active after missing a full year. Therefore leading to the lining up of a fight between herself and Poliana Botelho for UFC 236 on April 13.
However, this report would end up being false as VanZant had found out that she suffered another break in the arm that she had surgically repaired once prior.
In the meantime, VanZant has done some modeling for Sports Illustrated and will now continue to stay busy with this commentary work before making another return hopefully sooner rather than later.
