PHOTOS | Conor McGregor in attendance for 2019 Super Bowl
It’s finally Super Bowl Sunday. All over the world, football fans are piling onto couches amid panoplies of snacks and drinks to enjoy the big game. Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor, however, will be enjoying the Super Bowl from a vantage point many of us can only dream of — from inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
McGregor’s presence at the Super Bowl was announced on the official NFL Twitter account.
“[Conor McGregor] in the house,” read a post on the official NFL Twitter account, which included a photo of McGregor and his son Conor Jr. “Super Bowl LIII Tonight on CBS.”
McGregor even crossed paths with comedian Kevin Hart on the field.
The 2019 Super Bowl, of course, does not mark the first time the Irish superstar McGregor has brushed shoulders with the stars of the football world. Late last year, he attended a Dallas Cowboys game and even got some face time in with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Conor McGregor last fought on the blockbuster UFC 229 pay-per-view — effectively the UFC’s Super Bowl if ever there was one — where he came up short to reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov by fourth-round submission.
After this fight, McGregor, Nurmagomedov and several members of their teams engaged in a hectic brawl, inside and outside the Octagon. Several months later, the parties involved in this wild melee were punished by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). McGregor received a $50,000 fine and a six-month suspension, retroactive to October 6, while Khabib Nurmagomedov received a heavier $500,000 fine and nine-month suspension, which can be reduced to six months if he completes an anti-bullying PSA.
While this punishment is bound to sting a bit for McGregor, his attendance at the Super Bowl is proof that his life is still pretty darn good.
