Pros react to Anderson Silva vs. Jared Cannonier at UFC 237

A middleweight bout featuring former division kingpin Anderson Silva taking on Jared Cannonier co-headlined tonight’s UFC 237 event in Rio.

Anderson Silva

Silva (34-9 MMA) was making a quick turnaround for this fight, this after dropping a decision loss to Israel Adesanya at February’s UFC 234 event in Australia. Prior to the setback, ‘The Spider’ was coming off a unanimous decision victory over Derek Brunson which occurred at UFC 208.

As for ‘The Killa Gorilla’, Cannonier was most previously seen in action at November’s UFC 230 event in New York, where he defeated former World Series of Fighting Champion David Branch.

Tonight’s UFC 237 co-main event did not get out of the first round. Jared Cannonier opened up the contest be landing numerous low kicks on the former middleweight title holder. Silva would finally get off some shots of his own, but was ultimately injured shortly thereafter from another low kick courtesy of the ‘Killa Gorilla’.

’The Spider’ crashed to the canvas immediately after absorbing the kick and began to clutch his knee. The bout was then called off by the referee and Cannonier was awarded the TKO victory.
