Pros react to Anthony Pettis finishing Stephen Thompson
Tonight’s UFC Nashville event was headlined by a welterweight bout featuring Stephen Thompson taking on former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis.
The bout marked Pettis’ first appearance at welterweight in over a decade.
“Showtime” was last seen in action at October’s UFC 229 event, where he suffered a TKO loss to Tony Ferguson in a “fight of the night” performance.
As for “Wonderboy”, Stephen Thompson also entered tonight’s UFC Nashville main event looking to rebound. Thompson was coming off a controversial decision loss to Darren Till in his most recent octagon appearance in May of 2018.
Stephen Thompson got off to a fast start in tonight’s headliner. The former UFC welterweight title challenger, “Wonderboy”, was able to find a home for his jab while exchanging kicks with “Showtime”.
After the better part of two rounds it seemed that Thompson was going to cruise to victory in tonight’s UFC Nashville main event. That was until Anthony Pettis landed a perfectly timed superman punch that sent “Wonderboy” crashing to the octagon canvas. Thompson was out cold from the strike, which will surely be added to Pettis’ already ridiculous highlight reel.
