Pros react to Donald Cerrone vs. Tony Ferguson at UFC 238

A key lightweight bout featuring a former interim title holder Tony Ferguson squaring off with Donald Cerrone took place at tonight’s UFC 238 pay-per-view event.

Ferguson was returning to action for the first time since October’s UFC 229 event in Las Vegas, where he defeated former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis via TKO.

“El Cucuy” entered tonight’s contest on an extremely impressive eleven fight win streak, which included victories over Rafael dos Anjos, Kevin Lee, Josh Thomson and the aforementioned Anthony Pettis.

Meanwhile, Donald Cerrone was last seen in action at UFC Ottawa, where he picked up a dominant victory over Al Iaquinta.

‘Cowboy’ road into tonight’s fight in Chicago on a three fight win streak, which included stoppage victories over Alex Hernandez and Mike Perry (at welterweight).

Tonight’s Tony Ferguson vs. Donald Cerrone bout, which was dubbed ‘The People’s Main Event’, lived up to the hype.

Ferguson and Cerrone engaged in a back and forth first round which  had many debating the how the first five minutes of action should be scored.

‘El Cucuy’ was able to get the better of Donald Cerrone in round two, leaving ‘Cowboy’ headed to his corner with a mangled eye.

After the doctor took a good look, the fight was called off and Tony Ferguson was announced the winner by TKO.

With his victory over Donald Cerrone, Tony Ferguson is now expected to fight the winner of UFC 242’s Dustin Poirier vs Khabib Nurmagomedov lightweight title unification bout.
