Rafael dos Anjos calls out Conor McGregor: ‘you pick the weight class’
Last night, the UFC touched down in Fortaleza, Brazil, with an exciting 13-fight card. As always, the fans in the building were incredibly excited and passionate — so much so that former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor now wants to fight in the country.
“What an amazing atmosphere at UFC Brazil tonight,” Conor McGregor wrote on Twitter. “I would LOVE to compete there for all the passionate Brazilian fans at some stage of my career. I was so close to securing a bout in Rio last year. It was essentially a done deal. Maybe next time. Ui Vai Morrer!!!! I’m still here.”
Shortly after Conor McGregor made this comment, former UFC lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos — who was briefly scheduled to fight the Irishman in 2016 — offered to welcome him to the country.
“We have unfinished business, we got close to get it done twice,” Rafael dos Anjos wrote on Twitter. “You pick the weightclass.”
Interestingly, this comment from Conor McGregor also got the attention of Brazilian MMA legend Jose Aldo, who was victorious over Renato Moicano in the UFC Fortaleza co-main event. Aldo, who was knocked out by McGregor in 2015, has been campaigning for a rematch with him ever since. He too says he’d like to welcome the Irishman to the country.
“To me it would be great,” Jose Aldo said, discussing a potential rematch with McGregor in Brazil. “I don’t know if this fight he said [would be] in Rio, it didn’t get to me, but if I have that opportunity at the division above, that way I don’t have to suffer through the weight cut, I think it would be a great fight.
“I think in the first fight we weren’t able to show my work. He connected with a great punch, but if you have another opportunity, I think the story’s going to be different.”
If Conor McGregor fights in Brazil who do you want to see him fight?
