Report | Anthony Johnson arrested for domestic violence
According to a report from TMZ Sports, two-time UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson was arrested for domestic violence on Monday night. Johnson reportedly admitted to getting physical with his girlfriend during an argument, but claimed that he only picked her up and did not intend to hurt her.
TMZ obtained the police report linked to this incident, which states that the woman called the police to report an altercation. The woman claimed she was kicking Johnson out of their house, packing up his belongings, when he “put her in a football hold.”
The woman says “she was scared due to his size and martial arts experience.”
Johnson allegedly claims he picked her up and moved her to another room because he didn’t want to argue anymore.
According to TMZ’s report, the arresting police said that the woman did not have any visible injuries as a result of this incident. Nonetheless, Johnson’s actions warranted a domestic violence arrest. He was hit with a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
Anthony Johnson retired in 2017, after failing to wrest the UFC light heavyweight title from the waist of champion Daniel Cormier. Over the course of his fighting career, which spanned four weight classes, he picked up victories over top fighters like Dan Hardy, David Branch, Andrei Arlovski, Phil Davis, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alexander Gustafsson, Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and Glover Teixeira. He is currently working for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) in a fighter relations role.
