Report | UFC looking at matching Brian Ortega vs Zabit Magomedsharipov
The UFC featherweight division has gotten deeper and deeper over the years since it was introduced with the absorption of the WEC in 2011.
Since then, fighters within the weight class have provided us with some incredible moments whether it be from the lone champions in Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor or Max Holloway. In regards to the latter, his last title defense came in December 2018 when he put on a masterclass against the undefeated BJJ phenom, Brian Ortega.
‘T-City’ entered into the contest being given quite a good chance by spectators and rightfully so. His path to get to the title was as impressive as any. And despite coming up short against the champion, he showed an absurd level of heart and resilience as he never backed down.
Earlier this week, Ortega took to Twitter to provide everyone with an update on his health after the grueling battle.
All my broken bones are healed. It’s time to get back to work. #myjourney

“All my broken bones are healed. It’s time to get back to work. #myjourney” he tweeted.
When it comes to what might be next for Ortega, he was interested in a potential clash with the aforementioned featherweight icon in Aldo. Unfortunately for him, Aldo would end up getting matched with the rising Australian contender, Alex Volkanovski for UFC 237 this Saturday night. Aside from that, he is, of course, interested in a rematch with Holloway.
However, it seems like the UFC may have some other ideas for Ortega’s next bout as FloCombat is reporting that the organization is interested in matching him with Russia’s Zabit Magomedsharipov sometime in the Summer.
For the 28-year old Magomedsharipov, his last win was the biggest of his career as he defeated Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision at UFC 235 in March. Thus extending his current winning streak to 13 (five in the UFC).
