Sean O’Malley returns from USADA suspension at UFC 239, takes on ‘Chito’

By Tom Taylor - April 26, 2019

“Sugar” Sean O’Malley is one of the most promising young prospects in the crowded UFC bantamweight division. Unfortunately, it’s been some time since we’ve seen the fan favorite in the cage, as he was recently sidelined by a four-month suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), the result of his ingesting a tainted supplement containing Ostarine.

The good news is that The MMA Lab representative is now set to return to the cage — on the biggest UFC card of the year thus far. According to ESPN, he will battle Marlon “Chito” Vera at UFC 239 on July 6 in the midst of the UFC’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

Sean O’Malley will enter this fight with a flawless record of 10-0. His last two victories have occurred in the UFC’s Octagon, where he’s defeated Terrion Ware and Andre Soukhamthath, both by decision. His next most recent victory is the one that propelled him into the limelight: a first-round knockout win over Alfred Khashakyan on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

Marlon Vera, who has perhaps shown even more promise than O’Malley, will enter this fight on an impressive three-fight streak composed of a knockout of Frankie Saenz, a submission of Guido Canetti, and a TKO win over Wuliji Buren. This streak was preceded by a pair of decision losses to Douglas Andrade and John Lineker, and another three-fight win-streak. The Ecuadorian finisher is a strong 15-5-1 overall.

Who do you think wins this newly booked UFC 239 fight between Marlon Vera and Sean O’Malley?
