“Heard somebody is looking for a fight. What you guys think?” said Pettis on Instagram. “Take my talents to WW and take on the boy? Comment let me know if y’all get excited for this one.”

Stephen Thompson responded to Anthony Pettis this afternoon on his official Instagram page.

“For the fans! If @showtimepettis wants to come try out 170 y’all know I’m ready. We both got highlight reels, let’s do it!”

Anthony Pettis (21-8 MMA) was last seen in action at UFC 229, where he suffered a TKO loss to top 155-pound contender Tony Ferguson.

“Showtime” has gone 3-3 over his past six fights, earning wins over Michael Chiesa, Jim Miller and Charles Oliveira during that time.

It is worth noting that the former UFC lightweight champion, Pettis, has never competed at 170-pounds.

Meanwhile, Stephen Thompson was expected to square off with former division champion Robbie Lawler in early 2019.

Unfortunately, that fight was scrapped in favor of booking “Ruthless” against undefeated promotional newcomer Ben Askren at UFC 235.

While Askren vs. Lawler is an intriguing matchup, Stephen Thompson is now left without an opponent for the first quarter of 2019.
“Wonderboy” was last seen in action in the headliner of May’s UFC event in Liverpool, where he suffered a controversial decision loss to Darren Till.

Prior to his setback in Liverpool, Thompson was coming off a spectacular performance against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217, which culminated in a unanimous decision victory for the native of South Carolina.
