Steroid metabolites found in Jon Jones UFC 232 VADA drug test results
Don’t look now, but steroid metabolites have once again been found in the system of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Jon Jones was drug tested in competition by Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) in the lead up to his UFC 232 rematch with Alexander Gustafsson.
The results of those tests came back this week, and once again Jon Jones has been flagged for having turinabol metabolites in his system.
Jones had 33 picograms of 4-chloro-18-nor-17β-hydroxymethyl, 17α-methyl-5α-androst-13-en-3α-ol (M3) (or DHMCT) in his system, per the commission. The urine sample was collected from him on the day of weigh-ins, which took place December 28, 2018.
Jon Jones went on to defeat Alexander Gustafsson via third-round knockout in the main event of UFC 232 on December 29, 2018.
The CSAC (California State Athletic Commission) will not take disciplinary action against Jones, this according to executive officer Andy Foster. As this was the same long-term M3 metabolite that Jon Jones was suspended 15 months for following his UFC 214 victory over Daniel Cormier.
“I spoke with the scientists,” Foster said to MMAFighting. “They stand by their original statement. Nothing has changed. We’ve already punished Jon Jones for the M3 metabolite, which is a long-term metabolite. There’s no grounds to charge somebody twice for the same violation.”
This was the same metabolite that forced UFC 232 to be moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on just one weeks notice so that “Bones” would be eligible to compete.
Jon Jones is expected to return to the octagon at March’s UFC 235 event to defend his title against surging division contender Anthony Smith.
