The biggest winners from UFC Ottawa

By Mike Straus - May 6, 2019

The fights are always fantastic when the Octagon stops off in Canada. Saturday’s UFC Ottawa card was no exception. Let’s take a look at the biggest winners from the card.

Donald Cerrone, Cowboy, Joe Rogan, Brendan Schaub

Walt Harris

At times the 35-year-old Walt Harris leaves you scratching your head. On other occasions, like his UFC Ottawa victory over Sergey Spivak, he leaves you thinking he could be coming for the title.

The win makes it two straight for Harris. After his victory, Harris called out two fighters he was scheduled to face prior to this fight: Andrei Arlovski and Alexey Oleynik. Though both are coming off losses, both seem like plausible opponents for the victorious Harris.

Macy Chiasson

Macy Chiasson

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 28 winner sure looks like a future bantamweight champion in the making.

Since winning TUF Chiasson has quickly picked up a couple of wins inside the Octagon. With all the physical tools at her disposal and a growing understanding of combat sports, the Louisiana native cashed in as the largest betting favorite of the night in Ottawa, stopping Sarah Moras in the second frame.

Chiasson, who was already sitting at the No. 14 position in the division’s rankings, will almost certainly draw a top 10 opponent next, perhaps even a top 5.

Shane Burgos

“Hurricane” Shane Burgos picked up the biggest win of his career over the weekend as he defeated Cub Swanson via split decision in Ottawa.

With the win, Burgos improves to 12-1 and he has gone 5-1 since signing with the UFC. Having beaten the previously No. 10 ranked Swanson, Burgos should find himself in the featherweight elite and will almost certainly have a number next to his name when the updated rankings come out.

Donald Cerrone

The amazing “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone continues to defy the odds.

At 36-years-old it can be argued that Cerrone has never looked better. He picked up his third win in a row, defeating Al Iaquinta in the main event of UFC Ottawa and is still trying to lasso a fight with Conor McGregor.
