Mixed martial arts legends Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell squared off for a third time last weekend in Inglewood, California.

The trilogy, which took place under the Golden Boy MMA banner, marked Liddell’s first fight in over eight years.

The bitter rivals, Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, had previously met at UFC 47 and UFC 66 with the “Iceman” emerging victorious in both occasions by way of knockout.

Unfortunately for fans of the now 48-year-old “Iceman”, Chuck Liddell’s controversial comeback did not go according to plan.

Tito Ortiz was able to drop Chuck Liddell in the late stages of round one and promptly finished the fight with some ground and pound.

With his emphatic victory, Tito Ortiz improved to 4-1 over his past five-fights, which includes submission wins over Chael Sonnen and Alexander Shlemenko.

Despite his recent success, Tito Ortiz announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts shortly following his victory over Liddell.

Meanwhile, following his disappointing loss to “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy”, Chuck Liddell has now lost his past four fights, with all four of those losses coming by way of knockout.

“The Iceman” took to his personal Instagram last night where he issued an emotional message to his fans.

“To all my close friends, family and fans out there. I want to thank you for your tremendous love and support. I don’t know where I would be without you guys.” said Chuck Liddell. “Now I want to give you an important message. These past few months for me were a lot more than a fight against Tito (Ortiz). Its really been about my own personal journey and challenge. Martial Arts has been my life. Thirty-six years. I felt lost without it. It has always kept me centered so that I could find my focus. I wish the outcome of the fight was different. I never wanted to disappoint anyone, or let anyone down. But this fight was more about pushing my limitations and getting my back to a place to find my purpose. And for that, I have no regrets. For anyone else out there who is struggling with self doubt or physical, mental or an emotional challenge… I encourage you to face your challenges. Chase your dreams and risk everything to reach your goals.”

Shortly following Liddell’s inspirational video, Tito Ortiz replied to Chuck’s post where he insinuated that he and the “Iceman” have buried the hatchet.

“Thank you and mad respect for you! At the end of the day we began as friends and we end as friends! Fans take a note to Chuck’s message!” – Tito Ortiz
