TJ Dillashaw still feels animosity toward Cody Garbrandt: ‘I said I’d ruin his career, I’m doing it’

UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is now 2-0 over his former training partner and fiercest rival Cody Garbrandt. While Dillashaw undeniably came out on top in this high-profile rivalry, however, he still feels some serious hostility toward Garbrandt.

Speaking to MMAjunkie, TJ Dillashaw explained that he is still making good on his pre-fight promise to ruin Cody Garbrandt’s UFC career.

“Hell yeah I’m cool with how it unfolded [in the second Garbrandt fight],” Dillashaw said. “It’s exactly as I said it was going to go down. I told you I was going to knock him out in the first round, I did. I said I’d ruin his career, I’m doing it. The guy is screwed at 135. He should have went back to the drawing board and gotten better, but he talked his way into an ass-whooping.”

For TJ Dillashaw, it was never only about beating Cody Garbrandt. It was about silencing the entire Team Alpha Male stable, as many of the gym’s stars made disparaging remarks about him before his two battles with Garbrandt.

“I’m happy,” Dillashaw said. “It’s not only him, it’s the whole team. The whole team needed a (expletive) ass-whooping. They talked all that crap, they want to accuse me of a bunch of bull(expletive). That’s the game. Karma’s a (expletive).”

TJ Dillashaw made similar statements on a recent appearance on BJPENN.COM Radio, explaining that he was relieved to move to 2-0 over Garbrandt and stomp this rivalry out for good.

“With all the drama that’s been going on [between Garbrandt and I] for the last two years, all the accusations on me, having to deal with all the drama, I mean, obviously, that was a huge weight off my shoulders once the second fight was done,” TJ Dillashaw said on episode 100 of BJPENN.COM Radio. “[I was] anxious to do it exactly how I said I was going to, you know? I saw the openings. I knew how much better of a fighter I was. I told everyone I was gonna finish in the first round. I changed up who I was and fought him completely different.”
