Tyron Woodley assures he is fighting Colby Covington next
Shortly after Kamaru Usman defeated Rafael dos Anjos last Friday night in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White suggested that “The Nigerian Nightmare” might have stolen Colby Covington’s spot at the front of the contendership line and earned himself a title fight with reigning champ Tyron Woodley.
“I would like to see [Usman] fight Woodley now after seeing that,” White told the media post-fight. “Listen, Colby Covington pulled out of the fight, didn’t defend his belt, this, that, and the whole thing. I’m one of these guys, when I just see a fight like this, I want to see Usman fight now. We’ll see what happens, though I’m not saying that’s the case. Sure [it’s possible].
While the UFC boss seems to be interested in a Kamaru Usman vs. Tyron Woodley fight, however, Woodley says he is most certainly fighting his arch rival Covington next.
“I am fighting ‘Queefington’,” Woodley said during an Instagram Live session (transcript via MMANytt). “When I’m fighting his little busted butt I don’t know. Hopefully sooner than later cause I know you all sick and tired of this dumb goof-ass videos that nobody’s f–king with, that don’t nobody think is funny, besides his dumb ass. I know you all tired of him so sooner than you know, he will be getting that ass whooped and then you won’t have to worry about him no more.
“Because after I beat his ass, I promise you with everything I believe in, everything I love, everything I ride for, he will be very, very unlikely to want to talk s–t again.”
This comment from Tyron Woodley lines up with a recent comment from Colby Covington, who claimed it’s title fight or bust for him.
“I’m big into being a man of my word and promises made, promises kept. I expect the same in return from the UFC,” Covington said in a recent interview with MMAjunkie. “They promised me Tyron Woodley and a fight for the undisputed belt. Since that belt is disputed by me currently, that’s all I’m accepting. Doesn’t matter if it’s Mickey Mouse with the belt – then that’s who I want.”
“‘Tyquil’ and I have unfinished business,” Covington continued, “and I deserve and have earned the right to fight for the undisputed title.”
Do you think we’ll finally see Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington battle in the New Year?
