Fighters react to Cynthia Calvillo’s scary UFC Argentina weigh-in
It was not a pretty sight when Cynthia Calvillo attempted to weigh-in for her UFC Argentina fight with Poliana Botelho on Friday.
The 31-year-old, Calvillo, was escorted to the weigh-in room where she struggled to step and remain on the scale.
Calvillo ultimately weighed-in at 118lbs, two pounds over the UFC women’s non-title fight strawweight limit.
The video of Calvillo’s UFC Argentina weigh-in quickly made the rounds amongst the MMA community.
Many fighters took to Twitter to share their respective thoughts on the scary footage from the UFC Argentina weigh-ins.
It’s not about the weight , it’s about being professional and arriving on the target ! Making weight is a part of the job period ! https://t.co/m810w4FUS5

If you guys don’t know how the cutting weight process goes in the UFC ect. what I have seen:
Someone cut from 170 down to 125 .. they get to make weight a day before weigh ins and they weigh 150 by fight night .So if you are 150 and someone actually weighs 125 is that cheating?— Jarred Brooks (@The_monkeygod) November 16, 2018
There is an advantage they should weigh in same day in the AM fight at night. You can only gain so much weight back in a couple of hrs and if you are unfit to fight that day you shouldn’t fight in that weight

I always try not to judge people because I don't know what happened behinds the scenes. But I advocate: TAKE A POINT from the first round! Who cares about the 20%? It doesn't effect the fight. Start the fight with a red card. https://t.co/6Rok5CbBdN

Roxy, I agree but hard to watch part is that they are carting her out to the weigh ins like she’s a drugged animal on display at a zoo.

yep I agree but I also agree in taking money..at the end if the day an overweight fighter can still make more money by winning the fight then to give up alittle $$ for the weight..it's an advantage for sure

Bottom line : make the fucking weight ! I use to cut 20-23 pounds in 18hours every fights because that was my choice ! Why ? Because I was working with good people and invest money in myself ! https://t.co/qQDjomxZeo

Cynthia Calvillo will still compete at tonight’s UFC Argentina event, but will now be forced to surrender 20% of her fight purse to Poliana Botelho.
Calvillo’s coach, Justin Buckholz, explained why his fighter was in such rough condition at the UFC Argentina weigh-ins.
“She had a brutal cut because she got her period.” Buckholz explained. “She work up at 118-pounds, 2-pounds over. We cut from 5:30 am to 9:00 am with Lockhart and Leith. We used baths, saunas, a rubber suit, treadmill, bike, but still nothing was coming off.”
UFC Argentina is headlined by a key welterweight bout featuring Santiago Ponzinibbio taking on Neil Magny.
In the co-main event of the evening featherweight standouts Ricardo Lamas and Darren Elkins will throw down in hopes of advancing the 145-pound ranks.
