UFC holiday message backfires as fans decry UFC 232 move in replies

By Tom Taylor - December 26, 2018

UFC 232 was originally expected to occur in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, December 29. When a Jon Jones drug test turned up an “atypical finding,” however, the Nevada Athletic Commission decided not license the former champ for his UFC 232 main event rematch with Alexander Gustafsson. The UFC brass then made the unprecedented decision to move the entire UFC 232 card from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on just 6 days’ notice, as the California Athletic Commission agreed to license Jon Jones for the fight.

While the UFC immediately offered refunds to fans who had purchased tickets to see the fights in Las Vegas, this didn’t do much to curb the disappointment of fans who had shelled out hundreds and even thousands of dollars on hotels, flights and other expenses to watch the card in Sin City.

Angry fight fans have been lambasting the UFC for its handling of the UFC 232 situation ever since the card was moved, and when the promotion took to Twitter with a Holiday message on Christmas day, that trend continued.

In fact, the countless fan replies on the UFC’s Happy Holiday message are almost exclusively negative.

“#HappyHolidays from our UFC family to yours,” the UFC’s Holiday message read.

“You guys ruined mine,” the top reply reads. “So no thanks.”

“Not to the people who planned to go to Las Vegas on December 29th,” another top reply reads.”

“Never been more disgusted w/ UFC,” another fan wrote. “You’ve demonstrated that you don’t wish anybody anything except profits for this new owner. You’ll feel the sting when we don’t give you our money anymore.”

“You guys moving this from the North Pole to the South Pole on a weeks notice?,” one fan joked, taking a humorous approach.

“Thanks for ruining the holidays for 15K+,” another fan wrote.

“I’ll never pay for a ufc event again after all this,” one fan vowed.

“Merry Christmas Scott Coker,” another fan said in a Tweet directed at the Bellator President. ‘”Bellator will see more of my money in 2019.”

And then, of course, there are the fans who chose to use gifs to express their disappointment with the UFC 232 situation.

Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words.

Suffice it to say that fans are not happy about the way the UFC handled the UFC 232 situation. Time will tell if these understandably irate fans decide to forgive.
