UFC Ottawa Results: Shane Burgos defeats Cub Swanson

A featherweight contest between fan favorites Cub Swanson and Shane Burgos took place on tonight’s UFC Ottawa main card.

Cub Swanson (25-10 MMA) enters tonight’s bout looking to snap a three-fight losing skid. The Californian is coming off setbacks to Brian Ortega, Frankie Edgar and Renato Moicano in his most recent octagon appearances.

Meanwhile, Shane Burgos (11-1 MMA) was last seen in action at November’s UFC 230 event in New York, where he scored a first round submission victory over Kurt Holobaugh.

Round two begins and this UFC Ottawa main card bout is back underway. Burgos comes forward and looks for body shot. Cub doubles up on his jab. Burgos continues to move forward and lands a low kick. Cub with a good right hand. Burgos answers with an uppercut. Swanson with a switch kick. Burgos replies with a jab. He continues to back Swanson up. Burgos with a nice uppercut. Cub returns fire with a right hand followed by a combination. Shane with another good uppercut from in close. Swanson rips the body with a hook. He leaps in with a right and Burgos answers with a left. Shane with a low kick now. Cub replies with one of his own. Two minutes remain in the round. Burgos with another good low kick. He paws with his jab. Cub is starting to swell up. Still, he fires off a good shot to the body of Burgos. Swanson with a nice jab followed by a body kick. Burgos snaps off a low kick. Cub counters with a right hand. Burgos with a combination. He lands some good shots up against the cage. Cub circles out but eats a kick to the body. Burgos with a low kick. He tries to go high but it is blocked. More kicks from Shane. The horns sounds to end round two.

Round three begins and the fighters get to work right away. Good shots from both men. Swanson with a low kick and then a flurry. Cub has upped the pace here in round three. He leaps in with a pair of rights followed by a low kick. Burgos lands a hard body kick. He follows that up with a straight left. Swanson shoots in for a takedown. Burgos defends but Swanson takes his back. Cub with some knees to the thighs of Shane Burgos. These are hard shots. Burgos scrambles and lands some uppercuts. Swanson is still on his back. He is trying hard for a takedown but Shane stays on his feet. Good punches from Burgos now. Cub with a quick jab. Shane lands a low kick. Burgos is coming on now. He lands a pair of kicks and then a left hand. Cub with a good counter but Burgos just keeps on coming. He lands a low kick. Another good kick from Burgos, this time to the body. Cub snaps a jab but Burgos catches him with another kick. He goes to the body with a hook. Cub shoots in for a takedown but it is not there. Burgos with a flurry and then a flying knee that misses.
