UFC Stockholm bonuses: Anthony Smith pockets extra 50k for retiring Gustafsson
Anthony Smith picked up an extra $50k for his submission victory over Alexander Gustafsson in today’s UFC Stockholm main event.
‘Lionheart’ defeated ‘The Mauler’ via fourth round submission in today’s headliner, much to the displeasure of the fans in attendance.
After it appeared that the hometown Swede was gaining momentum in round three, Anthony Smith shut the door on any potential Gustafsson comeback by locking in a fight-ending rear-naked choke midway through round four.
Gustafsson would announce his retirement just moments after the loss.
With the victory, Anthony Smith is now 4-1 in his five most recent fights at light heavyweight. Smith’s lone loss in that time came to Jon Jones via decision at UFC 235.
Aleksander Rakic picked up a perfomance bonus of $50k for his spectacular head kick knockout victory over Jimi Manuwa (watch that here). The victory moved Rakic to 4-0 in the UFC and 12-1 overall as a professional.
Makwan Amirkhani also earned a perfomance bonus at today’s UFC Stockholm event, this for submitting Chris Fishgold with an anaconda choke. The fighting pride of Finland improved his overall record to 15-3 with today’s emphatic win.
Last but certainly not least on the bonus list was Brazilian Leonardo Santos.
The former TUF Brazil winner returned from a near three-year hiatus at today’s UFC Stockholm event, and needed less than three minutes to dispose of his opponent Stevie Ray.
Santos landed a perfectly timed right hand that sent Ray crashing to the canvas, forcing the referee to step in and call a stop to the contest (watch that here).
With the win, Leonardo Santos improves his overall record to 17-3-1 in mixed martial arts.
