UFC veteran killed by Uber driver after dispute

According to a report from Brazilian news outlet Globo, former UFC fighter Rodrigo de Lima was killed by an Uber driver in Belem, Brazil on Sunday night.

This news was subsequently confirmed to MMA Fighting by UFC fighter Michel “Trator” Prazeres.

According to Prazeres, de Lima was involved in a dispute with the Uber driver. The driver then left the scene, only to return and hit the former UFC fighter from behind with his car.

Prazeres claims de Lima had friends with him at the time of the incident, and that police are still searching for the driver.

De Lima, who was married with two children, last fought in June when he defeated Luiz Fabiano under the Shooto Brazil banner. His next two most recent bouts occurred under the UFC banner, where was came up short in bouts with Ultimate Fighter veterans Efrain Escudero and Neil Magny. He was 9-3-1 as a professional mixed martial artist.
