The former WEC featherweight champion and Team Alpha Male (TAM) leader, “The California Kid” Urijah Faber’s retirement appears to be coming to an end.

As soon as the UFC announced that they would be returning to Sacramento this Summer, the rumor mill began to heat up with the possibility of a comeback from one of the greatest lighter weight fighters of all time.

The UFC Hall of Famer in Faber has been enjoying life after fighting as a coach and even recently competed this past weekend in a no-gi grappling match against BJJ prodigy, Nicky Ryan. Unfortunately for the MMA legend, the 19-year old would get the better of him in their match.

For Faber, now 40, he went on the first losing streak of his 44 fight career in 2016 before snapping it in his last fight against Brad Pickett in December of that same year. That fight also happened to take place in Sacramento.

Two years later and it looks like it’s time to get back in the Octagon.

“Looking at today’s landscape, I just know that I can compete easily,” Faber recently told Dan Hardy on Full Reptile. “I’ve stayed in great shape. It sounds like fun and the reason I stopped is because I wanted to. The reason I’m coming back is I have decided I want to… I just accepted a fight yesterday, I don’t know if that’s supposed to be put out yet.”

So here we are. Awaiting another returning legend.

Despite not knowing who Faber’s proposed opponent will be, we’ve already seen bantamweights share their interest in the possibility of fighting him. Two of the more notable ones being rising contenders, Ricky Simon, and Manny Bermudez.

The latter of which stopped one of Urijah Faber’s fighters at TAM in Benito Lopez via first-round submission (guillotine) during his last time out at UFC Phoenix in February.
