VIDEO | Brock Lesnar loses WWE title, opens door to UFC showdown with Daniel Cormier
Brock Lesnar is no longer the WWE Universal Champion. He surrendered that title at WrestleMania 35 on Sunday night after getting pinned by Seth Rollins (see it below).
This information is pertinent to MMA fans because it would seem to open the door to a long-discussed heavyweight title fight between Brock Lesnar and reigning champion Daniel Cormier.
The pair have been discussing a matchup against each other since Daniel Cormier captured the title by knocking out Stipe Miocic in July of 2018. Now that Lesnar’s role in the WWE universe has lessened, he’ll have much more time to gear up for a title fight with the UFC heavyweight champ.
Furthermore, this all lines up with recent reports that the UFC is working on a heavyweight title fight between Brock Lesnar and Daniel Cormier for UFC 241 in the summer.
Brock Lesnar has not fought since he battled Mark Hunt in the co-main event of UFC 200 in July of 2016. This outing originally registered as a decision win for Lesnar, but was overturned when he failed a drug test.
Daniel Cormier, meanwhile, last fought in November, when he defeated Derrick Lewis by submission in the main event of UFC 230. He certainly seems to be ready for a fight with the long-time WWE star.
Do you think we’ll finally see Lesnar and Cormier fight for the UFC heavyweight strap this summer?
