VIDEO | Khabib Nurmagomedov – Nate Diaz feud heats up as footage of their 2015 altercation resurfaces

Things are tense atop the UFC lightweight division. Over the last few days, champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and former champ Conor McGregor have been trading shots on social media, and on Sunday morning, fan favorite contender Nate Diaz inserted himself into the fracas, rekindling his old beef with Nurmagomedov, which began with a heated altercation at a World Series of Fighting show in 2015.

“I slapped you in your head you and your team didn’t do shit,” Diaz wrote to Nurmagomedov on Twitter on Sunday, shortly after Nurmagomedov took a shot at McGregor. “Live with that ur all pussies.”

It did not take long for Khabib Nurmagomedov to respond to this comment from Diaz. In his response, the undefeated Russian champion shared footage of his 2015 run-in with the Stockton, California native, offering a differing take on how things went down.

“You was hiding behind security and ran away coward, it’s clear on the video,” a post on Nurmagomedov’s Instagram account read. “We just smashed your team that night you punk.”

From there, Nate Diaz quickly responded, evidently not buying Nurmagomedov’s take on things.

“Be real,” he wrote. “You know what happened live with it.”

Nate Diaz has not fought since August of 2016, when he gave up a close, majority decision to McGregor. In his next most recent fight, he defeated Conor McGregor by submission in one of the year’s biggest upsets.

The Stockton, California native was expected to return to the cage against Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 in November, but this plan was scrapped when Poirier sustained an unfortunate injury.

Since then, there’s been widespread wonder as to whether the younger Diaz brother will ever fight again. Whatever the case, he remains one of the most popular and dangerous competitors in the perilous UFC lightweight division.

Khabib Nurmagomedov last fought in October, when he defeated Conor McGregor by fourth-round submission in the UFC 229 main event, retaining the UFC lightweight title and improving to 27-0 in the process.
